ERIC B. MAYS LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP
"The power of the people is greater than the people in power." — Eric B. Mays
The Eric B. Mays Legacy Scholarship honors the life and service of Councilman Eric B. Mays, who spent over a decade fighting for Flint's First Ward and became a national voice for the poorest and most forgotten communities in Michigan. This scholarship carries his legacy forward by investing in the next generation of students committed to leadership, civic engagement, and community impact.
Who Can Apply
Open to high school seniors and current college students nationwide who demonstrate a commitment to community service, civic leadership, or advocacy work reflecting the same spirit that defined Councilman Mays' life.
What It Covers
The award amount $500–$1,000 toward tuition, books, or educational expenses
Eligibility Requirements
How to Apply
Applicants must submit:
1. A completed scholarship application
2. A personal essay (500 words or less) on how they embody the belief that "the power of the people is greater than the people in power"
3. One letter of recommendation
4. Proof of enrollment or acceptance
